🏛️ *Unearthing History: Roman Villa Discovered in Wales!* 🏛️

An incredible slice of history has just been discovered beneath Margam Country Park, Port Talbot. Archaeologists have uncovered the largest Roman villa ever found in Wales! Dubbed “Port Talbot’s Pompeii,” this stunning find reveals a luxurious Roman abode, full of secrets about our ancient past.
Using ground-penetrating radar, researchers pinpointed this massive structure less than a metre below the surface, untouched by agriculture and development over centuries. Encased in the scenic, historic deer park, the villa’s ruins boast amazing preservation.

The enchanting high-status corridor villa sprawls over 572 square metres, hinting at a life of opulence with its multiple rooms and a grand veranda. Complete with defensive ditches, it indicates a significant past of a wealthy and powerful Roman presence in what we now know as Wales.
But wait, there’s more! Nearby, a large building thought to be a barn or communal hall further enriches this ancient snapshot. It’s rare to find such elaborate, non-military Roman remains in Wales, traditionally known for its Iron Age forts and medieval ruins.
Instead of being a remote frontier, the evidence shows South Wales was a thriving hub, boasting structures comparable to those in southern England. This remarkable villa shifts our understanding of Roman influence and settlement patterns in the region.

Locals are thrilled with this treasure trove of history, with community projects and open days planned, giving everyone a chance to dive deeper into the unfolding story. The discovery is set to draw intrigue and visitors, boosting pride and potential tourism in the area.
Our past is alive with tales and treasures, just waiting to be uncovered. What will the next dig reveal? Stay tuned! 🏺✨
