Online Predator Coaxes Minor into Performing Sexual Acts on Livestream

A shocking case has emerged involving Jack Barrett, a convicted sex offender from Swansea, who was caught preying on a 14-year-old girl through social media. Despite having completed a sex offenders programme for previous crimes, Barrett approached the young victim on TikTok, leading her into graphic conversations and inciting her to perform explicit acts on camera.

The situation came to light when the girl’s vigilant father discovered disturbing messages on her phone, prompting a swift police investigation. Meanwhile, Barrett showed no signs of rehabilitation, despite having finished a mental health treatment and a sex offenders course from a prior conviction. He had previously received an 18-month suspended sentence for possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

In court, Barrett admitted to a string of charges including sexual communication with a child and breaching a sexual harm prevention order. His barrister expressed concerns over Barrett’s inability to control his actions, while the judge unambiguously labelled him a “keyboard pervert” and a “paedophile”, highlighting the threat he poses to young girls.

Judge Paul Thomas handed Barrett an extended 10-year sentence—five years in prison and five on licence—indicating the seriousness of his offences. Barrett will be a registered sex offender for life and is prohibited from contacting his victim for the next decade.

Detective Constable Gemma McLean from South Wales Police condemned Barrett’s exploitation of online platforms to prey on minors, lauding the significant sentence as a strong deterrent. Authorities urge victims of online abuse to bravely step forward to help bring offenders to justice.
