🚨 Shocking Incident in Cardiff 🚨

Emily Hilton, a dedicated volunteer with the Welsh Ambulance Service, found herself in a terrifying situation while trying to help someone in need. Emily, 24, bravely decided to share her experience to raise awareness.
While responding to an emergency call on Newport Road in Cardiff, Emily encountered Craig Burgess, 48, who had fallen from his wheelchair. What started as a routine assessment quickly turned into a nightmare. As she communicated with her control room, Burgess became aggressive, threatening to “knock her lights out”. Despite his abuse, Emily offered further assistance, only for him to grab her and attempt to kiss her.

Reflecting on her harrowing ordeal, Emily said, “It completely knocked my confidence. I’ve never experienced anything like this in my three years of volunteering. It made me question if I wanted to continue.”
Thankfully, with support from her colleagues and friends, Emily decided to continue her invaluable work but remains cautious after the traumatic incident.

The culprit, Craig Burgess, was arrested and charged with sexual assault. He was found guilty and sentenced to a community order, required to perform rehabilitation activities, fined, and ordered to register as a sex offender for five years.
Emily’s courage in speaking out highlights the need for respect and safety for our emergency workers. 🆘
Emma Wood, the chief executive of the Welsh Ambulance Service, emphasised, “Any assault on an emergency worker is unacceptable. Emily was volunteering her time to support her community, and yet she faced a despicable act of violence.”
Show your support for our emergency workers who risk their safety to help others. It’s vital they receive the respect they deserve. 🙌
