⚠️ Heartbreaking incident at Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend ⚠️

On a seemingly ordinary night shift, a dedicated mental health nurse faced an unthinkable attack that left her deeply shaken and scarred. The nurse was tending to her duties when she was unexpectedly attacked by Alexander Horton, a 34-year-old patient who’d been at the hospital for just three days. Unprovoked, he approached her under the guise of needing help, only to put her in a headlock and attack her with a sharpened pen. The terrifying ordeal ended swiftly as staff restrained him, but not before the nurse sustained painful facial injuries.
Despite regaining her sight, the emotional scars remain. She bravely shares the ongoing fear and vigilance she lives with when at work, unsure if another attack could occur. The attack has not only left her with physical scars but also a haunting memory she struggles to move past.

Following his arrest, Horton remorsefully admitted he felt his world was collapsing due to missing his medication, and acted out of fear and confusion. At a Cardiff Crown Court hearing, he pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced under the Mental Health Act.
This incident sheds light on the risks faced by healthcare workers daily, especially in challenging environments. Our thoughts are with the nurse as she bravely continues her recovery journey and returns to a profession she loves, even amid fear and uncertainty.
This story is a somber reminder of the critical need for robust mental health support systems and the protection of those on the front line of care. ❤️👩⚕️
