Just returned from a charming trip to Llandeilo, the prettiest market town in Carmarthenshire, with its enchanting charm and vibrant streets offering an idyllic escape. But, I made a rookie mistake that left me a tad disappointed—any guesses? Yup, some of those quaint little shops and inviting eateries were closed! Turns out, Mondays (and even some Tuesdays) are a bit quieter here. Note to self: check opening times next time!
Despite my blunder, the town’s allure was undeniable. The weather put on a dramatic display with fields turned into temporary lakes and a fierce river Towy bursting its banks. Yet we managed to soak in the magic of this picturesque town. The parking was a pleasant surprise—spending the whole day for just £1.70!
We began exploring with a wander around Llandeilo’s delightful streets, where historical buildings told stories of the past. We found Flows Café Bar with its Scandi-Welsh vibe and heavenly interiors. Then a cosy stop at The Cawdor for mouth-watering toasties filled with Welsh cheddar, bacon, and more. Talk about comfort food!
Our discovery stroll took us to charming local boutiques like Dot Clothing and Scorpio. And let’s not forget the sweet scent of chocolate wafting from Heavenly Chocolate Emporium – the perfect spot for Christmas goodies!
As twilight descended, the Festival of the Senses sprinkled a bit of magic with coloured lights transforming the town into a fairy-tale realm—an entrancing spectacle that peaked with a stunning sunset over the river, blending orange and gold hues in the sky with its reflection in the water.
While we missed exploring Dinefwr Park and the Carmel Nature Reserve, it just means we must visit again. Llandeilo, with its vibrant heritage, warm community, and picturesque surroundings, is calling us back. Maybe next time with sunnier skies and a checked list of open local spots!
