The buzz on the street is that patrons have been accused of urinating outside and intimidating nearby residents. One neighbour, Ms. Preece, has lived next door for 20 years and says disruptions have been the worst she’s ever experienced since the new management took over.
The drama escalated when residents penned letters to the council, citing late-night noise, rowdy behaviour, and other unpleasant incidents. Yet, landlord Ross Perkins insists the pub is a vital community hub, beloved by many. He’s even got a petition going, urging locals to back him amidst the backlash.
In response to the uproar, a licensing committee gathered to discuss possibly cutting the pub’s operating hours from 9am-1am to an earlier end time of 11.30pm. During this meeting, police shared their input, noting that while there have been incidents, they don’t consider the pub a major trouble spot. Officers highlighted proactive steps by pub staff, who’ve reached out for police assistance when needed.
Meanwhile, Trading Standards raised concerns about the management, describing Perkins as “relatively inexperienced.” But Perkins fired back, stating his team has implemented several measures to address issues, including installing CCTV, training staff, and removing benches to curb noise.
