🚗😟 Parking Woes in Aberbargoed: The Chapel Street Dilemma!

Residents of Chapel Street in Aberbargoed are in a tight spot! Many locals are scared to move their cars for fear of losing their precious parking spaces. This comes amidst a heated debate over plans to turn a local home into a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO).

Residents, backed by Stephen Fox, voiced their concerns to Caerphilly council, pointing out existing parking chaos from school runs and services at a nearby chapel. They believe converting the house will only add to the scramble for space.
Fox highlights a common issue: “Many complaints have gone in. Nothing is ever done.” The proposed HMO, a scheme run by not-for-profit housing, argues that tenants likely won’t own cars, so parking shouldn’t worsen.
But the council’s planning committee, acknowledging the ongoing parking challenges, says they had to look at the numbers. With the proposed change, they saw no increase in parking needs. Committee members expressed their frustrations, noting HMOs popping up throughout the area, often met with community resistance. Councillor Nigel Dix shared that “neighbours don’t like them, communities don’t like them.”
While the conversion was greenlit, the conversation about parking woes and the impact of HMOs is far from over. 🤔 What do you think about HMOs in your neighbourhood? Let us know in the comments! 👇
