Tragic Loss in Nelson π

We’re heartbroken to share that William John Mumford, 90, and his wife, Marlene, 84, tragically lost their lives in a devastating house fire at their home in Heol Fawr, Nelson, on December 12, 2025. This couple, well-loved in their village, were identified through DNA analysis due to the severity of the blaze.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of the fire and a possible explosion at the property. The response was a massive effort involving fire crews using eight breathing apparatus sets, hose reels, and jets to combat the flames. Despite their efforts, Mr and Mrs Mumford were sadly confirmed deceased at the site.
Senior coroner Caroline Saunders revealed at the inquest that no suspicious circumstances have been found, but investigations by the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service continue to uncover the cause of the fire. Early findings suggest both succumbed to “combustive products of fire.”
The local community, deeply affected by this tragedy, is rallying together to honour the Mumfords. Theyβre raising funds for a memorial bench to ensure their memory lives on. πβ¨
As we wait for the full inquest findings in October, we remember the importance of such inquiries. They not only help us understand tragic events but can also highlight safety lessons that may prevent future incidents.
Sending heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of William and Marlene during this incredibly difficult time. ποΈ
Stay informed and stay safe, everyone. πβ¨
