Welsh Conservative Lawmaker Dismissed Amid Allegations of Defecting to Reform Party Fires Back Declaring ‘UK in Crisis’

In a bold move, Welsh Conservative MS James Evans was stripped of his party membership over alleged talks with Reform UK. Evans, serving Brecon and Radnorshire and as shadow cabinet secretary for health and social care in the Senedd, claims he was ousted for “speaking out” against the status quo. He voiced concerns about the UK’s current state, declaring, “Britain is broken.”

Evans took to social media following the news, sharing that he was questioned about his discussions with Reform UK. He admitted to these talks, primarily focused on addressing critical national challenges and avoiding a hard left coalition. “I was asked not to say this and instead support a stance that the UK is not broken,” he remarked. “I could not, in all conscience, support what I believe is not true.”

The announcement stirred reactions, with Welsh Conservative leader Darren Millar confirming Evans’ dismissal via social media. Millar stated that Evans continued dialogue with Reform UK, despite earlier assurances he’d rejected such a move. Millar emphasised that all party members must be fully dedicated to the Conservative agenda.

Evans now faces a crossroads, contemplating his political future with broader considerations for his family, constituents, and Wales at large. His dismissal follows a growing trend of Tory defectors, including the recent switch of former shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick and Romford MP Andrew Rosindell to Reform UK.
