π« Scandal Rocks Welsh Education Unit! π«

Nick Ratcliffe, former head of a pupil referral unit in North Powys, is under fire for allegedly misusing school funds to buy everything from mountain bikes to yoga mats! π΄ββοΈπ§ββοΈ

During a hearing, it was revealed that Ratcliffe wasn’t initially qualified for the role when he was appointed and had been pleading for financial training from the local authorities. Despite this, he’s accused of not adhering to proper financial protocols, lacking itemised receipts, and making unauthorised purchases. π§Ύβ
A whistleblower’s concerns led to an investigation, uncovering purchases like power tools, drones, teddy bears, and even alcohol and food. Ratcliffe denies all allegations, except for footing the bill for a staff Christmas meal. π·π
Simon Anderson, Ratcliffe’s overseeing line manager, supported some of the spending for educational purposes, like buying breakfast for the students. However, he admitted there was no approval process in place at the time. ππ₯
Ratcliffe, once a dedicated childrenβs case worker, finally qualified as a headteacher in 2024, shortly before leaving the PRU, which supports up to 30 students. A colleague described him as passionate about helping children succeed, casting doubt on the accusations. π€π
The investigation continues, but this raises serious questions about oversight and support from local education authorities. What do you think β is it necessary spending for pupil welfare, or an ethics breach? ππ¨ββοΈ
