Heartbreaking News: Toddler’s Tragic Passing Elevates Awareness

In a devastating turn of events, two-year-old Harper-Lee Fanthorpe lost her life after swallowing a button battery that burned through her oesophagus and a main artery. What started as a normal Sunday morning for her mum, Stacy, ended in tragedy when Harper-Lee pointed to her mouth. Stacy thought it was related to her daughter’s history of septic tonsillitis. After being tucked into bed, Harper-Lee began spitting blood, leading to a frantic call to emergency services.

A camera examination at Royal Stoke University Hospital revealed a button battery lodged inside her, having already inflicted irreparable damage. Sadly, doctors determined she wouldn’t survive the transfer to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Stacy, still grappling with this immense loss since May 21, 2021, has dedicated herself to raising awareness about the dangers of button batteries. She shares her story to prevent other families from experiencing this unimaginable heartbreak. “I promised my baba that I wouldn’t let her die in vain. I want to protect other children from similar fates,” says Stacy.
