The NHS is set to offer a new cancer treatment, amivantamab combined with lazertinib, after a recent decision by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). This follows last year’s decision where it wasn’t initially recommended due to insufficient evidence. Now, good news is here as trials have shown promising results!

This treatment targets untreated EGFR mutation-positive advanced non-small-cell lung cancer, marking a significant step forward for around 1,100 patients in the UK who may benefit from this first-line option. 💪

NICE highlighted the importance of healthcare professionals communicating clearly with patients about their treatment options, ensuring everyone is well-informed and supported throughout their journey.

Amivantamab is administered via an IV infusion, while lazertinib is a daily oral tablet. Initially approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in March last year, this combination was previously available only in Scotland, but it will now be accessible to patients in England too.

A significant shift occurred in July 2025 during a consultation process. Although the draft guidance wasn’t initially favourable, revised clinical evidence showed that this treatment combo can notably delay disease progression and potentially extend patient lives compared to other available treatments.

NICE’s final guidance now mandates that this powerful drug combo must be funded in England within 90 days! 🎉

This new development reaffirms the NHS’s commitment to offering cutting-edge treatments, providing better outcomes for those living with this challenging condition. Let’s celebrate this stride forward in cancer care! 🌟 #CancerTreatment #NHSSuccess #HealthcareInnovation
