Heartbreaking News: A woman in Newport is grappling with unimaginable pain and distress after her world was shattered. She awoke one night to find a man she trusted, Anthony Bowyer, violating her in the worst way possible, leaving her feeling “worthless and suicidal”.

Bowyer, 38, has now been convicted of rape and intimidation at Cardiff Crown Court. The deeply traumatic event has left the victim struggling to recognise herself and her life feels forever divided into ‘before’ and ‘after’. Her confidence is shattered; she experiences extreme panic attacks, and even her physical health has taken a toll.

Despite consent to share a bed, there was no consent for what followed—an act Recorder Paul Hartley-Davies described as causing the victim “a great deal of distress.” Yet, Bowyer’s apparent “remorse” doesn’t seem to ring true with the severity of his actions.
With 37 prior convictions, his past includes a caution for indecent assault. This story is a stark reminder of the devastating impact such crimes have on victims. Currently, Bowyer is facing nine years behind bars, interlaced with a restraining order stretching a decade.
