Among the attendees was Holocaust survivor Peter Lantos, who shared his moving experiences from being deported as a child to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. His presence was a powerful reminder of the human stories behind these historical events.

The commemoration was also graced by First Minister Eluned Morgan, the Lord Mayor of Cardiff Adrian Robson, and Reverend Canon Stewart Lisk, among others, all uniting in the message of ‘byth eto – never again’.

The event included reflection readings by representatives from various organisations, including South Wales Jewish Representative Council and Equality and Human Rights Commission. Young ambassadors involved in the Lessons from Auschwitz project also shared their insights, reinforcing the theme of connecting past and future generations.

This national day of remembrance calls on everyone to engage with history, learn from it, and inspire hope for a more tolerant future. As part of the observance, buildings and landmarks will be illuminated in purple, and the public is invited to light a candle at 8pm, joining in a nationwide moment of reflection known as Light the Darkness.

Let’s stand together in honour of the past, and commit to a future where such tragedies are a distant memory. #HolocaustMemorialDay #NeverAgain #BridgingGenerations
