✨ Local Tensions Rise Over Family’s Remote Holiday Home Decision! 🏡🔍

A beloved stone house in the serene countryside of Llan Ffestiniog is at the centre of a heated debate! For over 60 years, this charming home has served as a family treasure. Now, a new chapter begins as it gears up to welcome guests as a holiday let. 🌿🏡

Eryri National Park Authority greenlit this change amidst growing concern over the number of summer homes in the area. Many locals fear this could further tighten the already limited housing market for residents. Ffestiniog Town Council were among the voices objecting, pointing to an urgent need for affordable housing and fewer temporary homes. 🏠💔
Despite the pushback, planning officers emphasised that the change aligns with policy and doesn’t disrupt the local housing balance. Officer Aled Lloyd confirmed, “It would be unreasonable to justify a refusal in this instance.” A big win for the family, who now aim to balance enjoying their home while sharing its beauty with visitors. 🗝️✨
Maggie Francis, representing the owners, stated, “The goal is simply renting when the family isn’t using it, helping with upkeep. We’re preserving the home’s history while allowing more people to enjoy its charm.”
With conditions in place—including signage in Welsh—locals remain divided. Is 8% summer home occupancy too high, or is this a model for smart sharing? Let us know what you think! 🤔❤️💬
