Meet Leila El Alti, a trailblazing mum who literally took birth into her own hands. After enduring traumatic experiences during her first two deliveries, Leila was determined to have a different story for her third child. And she did just that in a truly incredible way!
Leila asked to be part of the medical team during her Caesarean section, a pioneering move that saw her actually lift her newborn daughter, Aurora, onto her chest. Describing the moment as “the most magical experience of my life,” Leila revealed how this empowering choice filled her with joy beyond words. “My joy was not just for myself,” she shared. “I hope my experience opens the door for other women to embrace this wonderful birth option.”
Despite her past traumatic childbirths in Sweden, where she experienced significant distress and lack of consent, Leila found a supportive team at NHS Lanarkshire in Scotland. They agreed to her unique request and even practised with her using a simulation doll to ensure everything went smoothly.
The birth was personal and special: lights were dimmed, and silence filled the room, allowing Aurora to hear her mother’s voice first. Leila was overjoyed and reported a smoother recovery compared to her previous C-sections. Aurora, now a thriving 10-month-old, is a testament to the beauty and success of her birth.
