After 12 incredible years of leading the RCT Council, Cllr Andrew Morgan is stepping down. Reflecting on his journey from a 15-year-old apprentice in the housing department to a respected council leader, Andrew has been a beacon of dedication and leadership.
Despite facing financial hurdles, major flooding, and the pandemic, Andrew led the council with steadfast commitment. His passion for community shone through projects like transforming a closed school into a thriving community centre and hosting beloved local events like Nos Galan. Cllr Morgan’s proudest moments often involve rolling up his sleeves to solve local issues—boasting a 75% resolution rate on community problems!
Balancing roles as a local councillor and council leader was no easy feat, but Andrew’s endless dedication included emails at midnight and early mornings to serve his constituents. His decision-making wasn’t always easy, especially when budget cuts forced tough choices. Yet, he remains hopeful about the future, especially with improvements like a 4.5% boost in public service funding.
Away from politics, Andrew loves his Boxer pups, who keep him busy and grounded. Looking to the future, he remains committed to public service and hinted at new opportunities on the horizon.
Councillor Morgan isn’t seeking re-election in 2027, but he’s expressed his gratitude for the support and understanding of challenging decisions made during his tenure. He leaves behind an impressive legacy, from major school renovations to enhanced flood defences.
