A crucial change is on the horizon for drivers on a notorious stretch of the A548 in Wales. The speed limit is set to be lowered following a tragic motorcycle accident that claimed the life of beloved dad, David Langford, in May 2024. This decision aims to boost safety at a particularly dangerous junction notorious for its poor visibility.
The fateful crash occurred as David, riding his KTM motorcycle, collided with a vehicle at the problematic Waterloo Hill junction. Witnesses at the inquest described the junction as “exceptionally dangerous,” highlighting overgrown shrubbery that blocked visibility and questioning the current 60mph speed limit.
In the wake of the accident, Assistant Coroner Kate Robertson called for urgent action, stating there is a risk of future incidents if nothing is done. Reacting promptly, Conwy County Borough Council has proposed slashing the speed limit to 40mph over a 4km stretch, including the hazardous junction.
