A trip to Carmarthen’s Travelodge didn’t pan out as a 59-year-old hoped when his ‘date’ turned out to be a set-up by paedophile hunters. Caught red-handed, he thought he’d been chatting with a 13-year-old girl online. Instead, he was engaging with decoys from a group called Fleetwood Enforcers UK. 😲

Swansea Crown Court heard his sentencing case, where it was revealed he had been sending inappropriate messages and photos to the decoy. Despite knowing she was ‘underage’, he continued these conversations and even met with another decoy posing as a businesswoman at the Travelodge.

When he arrived, members of the hunter group confronted him and handed over evidence to the police. Although he initially claimed he was attempting to catch scammers himself, his story didn’t hold up in court. Having no previous convictions, he pleaded guilty to attempting sexual communication with a child.

Judge Catherine Richards strongly condemned his actions, highlighting the fear they instil in parents about online safety. 🧑‍⚖️

His sentence? A 12-month prison term suspended for the same period, a rehabilitation programme, and 10 years on the sex offender register. Alongside this, he’s subject to a sexual harm prevention order for a decade. Justice served! 🏛️

Stay vigilant online and let’s keep our children safe. 💪
