Nine lucky areas in Wales are set to receive a whopping £20m each from the UK Government’s Pride in Place scheme! This £180m boost aims to tackle everyday issues like cleaning graffiti, saving community spaces, and fighting anti-social behaviour.
So, who made the list? Here’s where the funding is headed:
– **Blaenau Gwent:** Sirhowy Valley
– **Caerphilly:** Bargoed, Aberbargoed, and New Tredegar
– **Cardiff:** Ely and Caerau
– **Carmarthenshire:** Llanelli
– **Conwy:** Llandudno
– **Neath Port Talbot:** Upper Afan Valley
– **Newport:** Newport city centre
– **Rhondda Cynon Taf:** Rhondda Fach
– **Swansea:** High Street and Dyfatty
Plus, all 22 council areas in Wales will share an extra £34.5m to spruce up public spaces—think fixing up bus shelters, reopening park toilets, adding more bins, and revitalising leisure centres! 🚍🌳
Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens says this investment puts power directly into the hands of local communities to make their areas better places to live and work. 💪
However, it’s sparked a bit of controversy. Some Senedd members are unhappy, arguing that the UK Government is overstepping into matters that should be handled by the Welsh Government. They urge for Wales to be treated as an equal partner in the UK, emphasising the importance of respecting devolved responsibilities. 🏛️
