James McKenna, a 57-year-old from Carmarthen, has been charged with attempted murder after a shocking incident in Carmarthen Park last week. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene on Thursday, January 29, following reports of a stabbing.

The incident left a woman seriously injured, and she was immediately taken to hospital for treatment. Authorities quickly launched an investigation, closing off parts of the park and the nearby Picton Terrace to gather evidence.
By Monday, police had a suspect in custody, and on Wednesday, charges were confirmed against McKenna. He is accused not only of attempted murder but also of possession of a bladed article in a public place and stalking.
Appearing at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court, McKenna confirmed his name, date of birth, and address. During the session, prosecutor Nia James detailed the accusations, stating McKenna allegedly attacked his former partner, Joanne Sidaway, causing serious injuries.
Represented by Andrew Isaac, McKenna has been remanded into custody and is set to appear at Swansea Crown Court on March 9.
