π **New Speed Limits in Vale of Glamorgan: Safety Boost or Not?** π

Heads up, Vale of Glamorgan! The Council has decided to lower speed limits on some key roads in Barry and Rhoose from 50mph to 40mph. This move aims to improve road safety, particularly for those accessing bus stops, cyclists, and pedestrians. πΏπ²

The push for change is based on data from the past three years that recorded eight collisions, three of them serious. The Council believes that slowing traffic down will lead to fewer and less severe accidents, offering road users more time to react to potential hazards.

But not everyone is on board. South Wales Police has pulled its support, expressing doubts that the speed changes will significantly impact road safety. They pointed out the absence of footpaths and cycling lanes as ongoing issues and raised concerns about the added strain on policing resources that enforcement would require. π¨
Despite these concerns, the Council is moving forward, and soon youβll see LED signs along the routes reminding drivers of the new limits, complete with enhanced warnings to alert you to bends and other hazards. π¦
The proposal did gather some objections during consultations, but the Council is standing firm, emphasising its dedication to reducing traffic accidents and encouraging more sustainable transport options.
What do you think? Will these changes make a difference, or is this just a speed bump on the road to real safety? Let us know your thoughts! π¬
