A shocking case of domestic abuse has emerged from Pontypool. Luke Groves, 32, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison following a string of violent and coercive acts towards his partner. The court heard how Groves unleashed his anger violently when asked to feed their baby, calling her a “useless mother” and smashing up their home. He even sent cruel and degrading messages, further damaging her self-esteem.

The torment didn’t stop there. Over five years, Groves’ controlling behaviour made it difficult for her to work, and she often feared for her safety. In a particularly disturbing incident, he strangled her whilst she held their child.
Despite having served in the Army, Groves couldn’t maintain a healthy family environment. He was described as a “man child” by the judge, who imposed a restraining order for four years alongside the prison term.
