🚧 Big news for Newgale! The £40 million makeover plan for the village’s coastal road has hit pause. With flooding havoc during storms like Dennis in 2020, Pembrokeshire Council planned a new road further inland, complete with a bridge over Brandy Brook. But after lengthy chats and a pocket-wrinkle-worthy budget, they’ve decided to hold off on the formal push for up to 24 months. 🌧️

Why the hold-up? Well, climate changes and shifting government priorities mean this road realignment is crucial, but with today’s financial squeeze, council members think it’s smart to hit the brakes and look again in a couple of years. 🛑
While the council tinkers with long-term options, STUN (Stand Up for Newgale) suggests a simpler, cheaper fix — moving some pebbles seaward and bolstering the existing road to keep stormy seas at bay. 🌊 But who’ll come out on top isn’t clear just yet.

Deputy leader Jon Harvey and councillor Michelle Bateman back the hold-up, saying it’s all about getting the right balance for the future. Only councillor Jacob Williams isn’t thrilled, calling the plan “unaffordable.”
