Sophie Collins, sadly passed away at just 30 years old following a tough battle with morbid obesity and drug abuse. Discovered by her partner at home on North Road, Ferndale, the tragic events unfolded on October 26, 2024. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Sophie could not be revived.
👩⚕️ Coroner Graeme Hughes revealed that Sophie’s health deteriorated due to morbid obesity, impacting her heart and mobility. These issues significantly contributed to her passing. Additionally, Sophie struggled with substance use, primarily buprenorphine, intended to aid opioid dependence.
Medical analysis confirmed that Sophie’s cause of death was a heart condition—left ventricular hypertrophy—exacerbated by obesity, high blood pressure, and drug toxicity. Pregabalin, an anxiety medication often illegally distributed, was also found to be a contributing factor.
