🎨 Exciting Art Plan in Pembrokeshire Dropped! 🚫

A buzz-worthy initiative to bring life-size National Gallery masterpieces to Pembrokeshire’s national park has hit a snag. Imagine classics from artists like Turner, Constable, and Cézanne gracing iconic spots like Carew Castle and St Davids. Sounds fabulous, right? Unfortunately, the plan has been cancelled. 😢
The “Art on your doorstep” project was all set to transform 12 locations across the park with these stunning copies. Carew Castle, for instance, was supposed to host Turner’s “The Fighting Temeraire” and Constable’s “The Hay Wain”. Meanwhile, Castell Henllys was earmarked for Cézanne’s vibrant “Bathers” and Titian’s “Bacchus and Ariadne”. Even Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” almost found a temporary home at Porthclais!

So, why the sudden change? The plan faced hurdles with Cadw, the historic environment protection service. Concerns rose about proper documentation and the necessary approvals from scheduled monument consent, especially since some of the proposed artwork sites lie within protected areas.
Rob Scourfield, a conservation officer, felt it was a missed opportunity, especially lamenting the absence of Turner’s view of Carew Castle, an artwork not many locals are aware of.
For now, we bid farewell to the dream of art on our doorstep, but who knows what the future holds? Stay tuned for more updates on art and culture in our beloved Pembrokeshire! 🎨✨
