🚨 Off-Road Bike Crackdown in Gwent! 🚨

Gwent is tackling the tricky issue of off-road biking, with residents increasingly worried about bikes roaring through urban zones and impacting upland areas. These bikes aren’t just causing noise; they’re linked to criminal activities, including drug dealing. But don’t worry, the local police are onto it!

Chief Constable Mark Hobrough assures us that while enforcement is crucial, finding alternative solutions is just as important. The police are forging alliances with local councils to develop safer, designated areas where enthusiasts can ride without causing havoc in the community.
In Rhymney, they’re rolling out a fantastic pilot project with the local authority to create a dedicated space for off-road bikes. This approach aims to minimise disruptions while allowing riders to enjoy their hobby safely. Hobrough highlights the importance of this balanced approach, given tight budgets and other pressing priorities.
Last year, support from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund led to the purchase of a Land Rover, quad bike, and even a drone to help monitor illegal activities. Although that particular funding has run dry, there’s no letting up!
Hobrough emphasises that off-road biking remains a top community concern across Gwent, and dedicated teams are working tirelessly to address it. Whether it’s Sur-Ron electric mini-motorbikes or reckless off-road riding damaging heritage sites, each area has its unique challenges, and the police are on top of them.
Share your thoughts on these measures and let’s keep Gwent’s streets safe and sound for everyone! 🏍️✨
