Big changes are coming to Morrisons! 🌟 The supermarket chain is shaking things up after closing several in-store amenities last year—52 cafés, 17 convenience stores, four pharmacies, 35 meat counters, and 13 florists. Now, they’ve put dozens of their remaining in-store pharmacies up for sale as they look to streamline operations.

Morrisons’ Chief Executive, Rami Baitieh, noted that the supermarket is navigating a “challenging period” as part of its ongoing transformation. It’s not just Morrisons feeling the pinch; since 2017, around 1,400 pharmacies have closed across England. Other big names like Boots and LloydsPharmacy have also shut down numerous locations, reflecting broader industry trends.

Despite these challenges, there’s a plan in place to revitalise Morrisons following its takeover by a US private equity firm. Since the acquisition, we’ve seen improvements through increased sales and market share by enhancing their loyalty schemes and cutting some prices.
Did you know Morrisons is the UK’s fifth-largest supermarket? With around 95,000 staff nationwide, it currently trails behind Aldi, who overtook it in 2022, and could soon be surpassed by Lidl. The race is on as supermarkets jockey for position amidst the cost-of-living crisis and changing consumer preferences.
Stay tuned for more updates on what’s next for Morrisons as they navigate this new chapter. 🍏🏬
