Shocking New Figures: Nearly 40% of Brits Struggling to Make Ends Meet 💔

In an eye-opening revelation, research has found that 25.3 million people in the UK are living below the minimum income standard. That’s almost four in ten individuals in one of the world’s wealthiest nations unable to sustain a decent standard of living.

For those keeping an eye on the cost-of-living crisis, this study exposes the true extent of the challenges faced by countless households. Even though employment rates are high, a staggering number of working families are still living below the required income to meet basic needs.

The Centre for Research in Social Policy (CRSP) at Loughborough University has highlighted this growing concern. Back in 2008/09, about half of these households found themselves below the threshold. Today, that figure has sadly soared.
The minimum income standard (MIS) in 2025 stands at £30,500 for singles and around £74,000 for couples with two children. Yet, many can’t keep up, often having to sacrifice heating their homes or enjoying simple family outings.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has made tackling the cost-of-living crisis a priority, as it’s clear that wage growth isn’t keeping up with soaring basics like food, energy, and childcare.
Experts warn that not earning enough affects more than just finances—it impacts productivity, mental health, and even relationships. True progress will require more than just policy changes; it’s about ensuring work truly pays and supports a fair standard of living.
Let’s talk about bridging this gap and making sure everyone in Britain can participate and thrive in society. 💬 What do you think needs to change?
