Big changes in Llanelli! 🎉

Llanelli Town Council has seen a major political shift, with Independents taking charge from Labour. After the local government elections in 2022, Labour had a clear majority, but recent reshuffles mean the council now comprises 10 Independents, 9 Labour, 2 Green Party members, and 1 Plaid Cymru.

Leading the new Independent group are Cllr Sean Rees and deputy Cllr Michael Cranham. They’re promising to focus on what truly matters to residents—improving services, investing in community spaces, and ensuring every penny counts. “We’re putting Llanelli first, not party politics,” says Cllr Rees.
The new leadership plans to boost transparency by recording and publishing council meetings and aim to freeze the town council precept for 2026-27, securing financial stability while enhancing facilities and supporting local initiatives. Cllr Cranham echoed commitment towards responsible use of public money, ready to collaborate with those sharing this vision.
Former Labour leader Cllr David Darkin praised his team’s past efforts, emphasising their dedication to enhancing community resources. While congratulating the new administration, he stressed the importance of transparency and vowed that Labour would diligently hold the new leaders accountable, supporting the priorities voted for by the public.
With a new team at the helm, Llanelli can expect renewed dedication to its community’s needs. What are your thoughts on these changes? Let us know! 🗨️🌟
