Welsh Roadways Set for Speed Limit Shake-Up Once More

Big news for drivers in Wales! 🚗 The Welsh Government is rolling out fresh speed limit changes on several main roads, shaking things up again after the 2023 shift to a 20mph default on many residential roads. While this slower pace has cut down accidents, it’s stirred up quite the debate! 🛑

New guidelines now mean local councils can keep some roads at 30mph—a decision that’s seen hundreds of routes move back to the faster limit. But for trunk roads, it’s up to the Welsh Government, which has now put together a list of changes, including adding ‘buffer zones’ to ease speed transitions.

Why this matters? 🎯 If you’re zooming at 60mph and need to drop to 20mph, a short section at 40mph might be introduced to help you ease your speed. Safer and smarter, right?

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in the pipeline:
– A494 Bala: A 30mph stretch might soon appear, with a buffer zone leading into the 20mph area.
– A487 Corris Uchaf: Expect a decrease to 20mph, along with a buffer zone south of it.
– A40 Glangrwyney: Proposed increase to 30mph with thoughts on a pedestrian crossing.

Plus, more roads across the country might get similar tweaks with supported infrastructure like crossings and improved signages to boost safety. 🚦

Remember, all these changes need Traffic Regulation Orders which can take about nine months, so actual changes aren’t expected until 2027. Drivers can still make objections once these proposals are formally announced.

Welsh Con’s Darren Millar is pleased about these changes, especially on routes like the A494, where new buffer zones are praised for enhancing safety after a history of accidents.

Have your say and keep your eyes peeled for these updates on roads near you. Drive safe and stay informed, because change is in the air! 🌟🛣
