🏡 Exciting plans for 40 new homes in Aberbargoed are in the works, but they’re currently on hold. Caerphilly Council is hammering out the details about how many of these will be affordable. Developer Llanmoor is looking to build a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom properties on land south of Bedwellty Road. There’s also a temporary access road planned, which will revert to grassland after three years.

The proposed homes will blend in with the existing neighbourhood, but building on this “sloping site” will require a fair amount of structural work, including retaining walls. While there’s no strict requirement for affordable homes in this development, the council is pushing for 10% to be affordable. Fingers crossed, they’re working hard to secure this!

Councillor Shane Williams shared his hopes that affordable housing will be a part of the plan, expressing a common frustration when it’s not the case. He’s pleased to see efforts to ensure affordability are under the microscope.
For now, the planning committee is taking a pause until discussions settle, with hopes of soon green-lighting the homes with potential affordability in mind. Meanwhile, the go-ahead has been given for the temporary road access.
Stay tuned for more updates as we find out whether affordable housing will find its place in this development! 🏠✨
