Exciting times in Welsh rugby! π The buzz is all about who might take over as the new chair of the Welsh Rugby Union if Richard Collier-Keywood is ousted. Rumour has it that former First Minister Carwyn Jones and ex-chair Gareth Davies could be in the running! π

The call for change comes after Central Glamorgan Rugby Union asked for an extraordinary general meeting, with a no-confidence vote in Collier-Keywood on the cards. There’s been strong backlash against the WRU board’s plans to cut down one of Wales’ four pro rugby teams, with the Ospreys possibly being sacrificed in a potential deal involving Y11 Sport & Media acquiring Cardiff. This move could see the Ospreys no longer exist as a professional sideβa move Swansea Council is none too happy about! π²

So, who will step up if the no-confidence vote passes? Over half of the clubs attending the EGM would need to support this change. With previous major governance reforms, it’s no longer up to the clubs to vote directly for a chair; the board makes the appointment. π€
Jones is no stranger to challenging the status quo. He’s previously proposed shaking things up by giving Welsh Premiership clubs a shot at breaking the regional ‘cartel’ dominating club rugby. Meanwhile, Davies, who served as WRU chair from 2014 to 2020, could be a safe pair of hands. But would they, or other potential candidates like Andrew Williams, Alison Thorne, or Hayley Parsons, take on the roleβat least for now?
With such high-profile names in the mix, rugby fans are on tenterhooks to see what direction the WRU will take next! π Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as the story unfolds! π #WelshRugby #WRU #RugbyReforms
