In a heart-wrenching incident, a 20-year-old woman named Sophie Brimble tragically lost her life in a car crash after an impromptu race between drivers. On that fateful night, Bayliss was allegedly racing another driver, Neil Brooks. As they zoomed down the street, Bayliss lost control of the vehicle, which tragically ended with the car colliding with a lamp post. Sophie died at the scene, and Bayliss sustained life-changing injuries, rendering him unfit to stand trial.

Witnesses recall seeing the cars speeding side by side, with one person estimating their speed to be nearly 90mph in a 30mph zone. Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe argued in court that this high-speed racing was a pivotal factor that led Bayliss to lose control, ultimately resulting in a catastrophic crash.

Despite the severe consequences, the legal proceedings focus not on guilt but on whether the act of causing death by dangerous driving occurred, due to the driver’s inability to participate in a trial. Sophie’s tragic story serves as a sombre reminder of the potential dangers of reckless driving and the devastating impacts it can have on innocent lives.
