Imagine the heart-stopping moment when a peaceful hike turns into a rescue mission! This is exactly what happened when two well-prepared adventurers found themselves in a precarious situation on Tryfan, one of Eryri’s most challenging peaks. After an overnight camp, they started their descent Sunday morning. Unfortunately, they strayed from the main path and one of them slipped in Waterfall Gully, taking a terrifying 50ft (15m) tumble.

Injured and unable to move, the trapped walker’s friend quickly called for help. The amazing Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team was dispatched, rushing to the scene with two skilled squads. Despite tricky weather, the Coastguard helicopter was ready in Caernarfon but couldn’t land due to the rocky terrain.

A technical rope rescue (TRR) was essential to get the hiker to safety. Expert rescuers meticulously crafted a rope rescue system, and with a stretcher and great care, they lowered the injured walker to the main path. After a tough journey across the rugged mountainside, they finally reached an ambulance waiting at the roadside.

Kudos to the heroic efforts of the rescue teams for their quick response and expertise in averting what could have been a tragic outcome!

Stay safe and always double-check your routes, folks! Nature can be unpredictable, so preparation is key. 🌲💪
