Despite negative tests, Inca’s persistent behaviour led Colleen to get a full body scan, which revealed a golf ball-sized tumour in her left lung—stage one cancer. 🤯 As a non-smoker and former science teacher, this came as a complete shock to Colleen, who thought her tiredness was just age catching up.

Thankfully, due to a cancellation, Colleen received timely surgery in June 2015 and didn’t require further treatment. Fast forward over a decade, and she’s living life to the fullest—she quit her teaching job, pursued a master’s in creative writing, and even became a published author. 📚✍️

Colleen firmly believes Inca saved her life. “The surgeon said, ‘We never catch it at stage one. Your dog has saved your life.’ Every day is now extra special with Inca,” she shared. 🥰 She’s also trained Inca as a recovery assistance dog, providing comfort and support during bouts of anxiety post-diagnosis.

“Dogs give us more comfort than we realise. Listen to your dog—they might be telling you more than you think!” 🐾✨ Celebrating Inca’s instincts, Colleen is grateful for her loyal companion who stood by her side, ensuring early detection and giving her a new lease on life.

Remember, your furry friends might just be your best guardians! 🐶❤️
