Carmen Gaynor-Turner, the 19-year-old daughter of Olympic hurdler Andy Turner, finds herself stranded in Dubai amidst the chaos of escalating tensions in the Middle East. What was meant to be an exciting solo adventure has turned into a week-long ordeal as Iranian attacks have forced her flight back home to Stockport to be cancelled.

Setting off for Dubai, Carmen planned to explore the possibility of relocating there permanently after being offered a job as an estate agent. However, her plans took a terrifying turn following a retaliatory strike from Iran, linked to ‘Operation Epic Fury’ by the US and Israel. Carmen explained the harrowing experience of missiles and drones overhead, turning her Airbnb stay into a week of sleepless nights and anxiety. She recounted to Manchester Evening News how missile alerts kept her awake and how frightening it was to see panic around her.
With her return flight now scheduled for early Sunday with Emirates, Carmen is holding onto hope amidst her fears. Since relocating to a family friend’s property in Damac Hills, she’s managed to distance herself somewhat from the missile-laden skies of Dubai Marina but continues to lay low, limiting her ventures outside.

Back in the UK, Carmen’s parents are understandably fraught. Her mum, Natalie, describes the situation as a nightmare, exacerbated by the worry of having her daughter thousands of miles away in such a situation. Plans are on standby, and her dad Andy is ready to travel to Dubai if necessary, despite the uncertainty.
Carmen, once drawn to Dubai’s allure, now only wishes for the safety and comfort of home, eager to reunite with her loved ones as soon as circumstances allow. Fingers crossed her Sunday flight goes off without a hitch!
