Convicted murderer Ian Huntley fatally injured in prison altercation

Ian Huntley, the infamous Soham murderer, has died following a violent attack in prison. The 52-year-old, who was serving a life sentence for the tragic 2002 murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, was attacked at HMP Frankland. A fellow inmate reportedly used a makeshift weapon, likely a metal bar, leaving Huntley with severe head injuries.

Following the attack, Huntley, left blind and in a vegetative state, was placed on life support, which was switched off on March 6th after tests showed no hope of recovery. The shocking assault occurred in the prison’s recycling area, and the suspect, a man in his mid-40s, was detained by authorities.

Huntley’s brutal crimes had made him a target behind bars, and the recent attack wasn’t the first time he faced violence in custody. The Ministry of Justice expressed their sympathy for Holly and Jessica’s families, acknowledging that their loss remains one of the UK’s most devastating criminal cases.
