🌊🚮 A Clean-Up Success at Rhyl’s Marine Lake! 🚮🌊

Imagine pulling out a whopping 150kg of rubbish from a beautiful lake! That’s just what happened at Marine Lake in Rhyl during a recent two-day cleanup mission. Dedicated teams from the Harbour Office, alongside Countryside Services, dived into action to rid the lake and its bed of all kinds of litter left by visitors.

Amongst the shocking haul were shopping trolleys, glass bottles, countless drinks cans, and unfortunately, several hundred fishing nets. These nets pose a severe risk to the lake’s wildlife as they can break down into hazardous microplastics.
Every year, this essential cleanup takes place during a planned drop in the lake’s water level, making it easier to access the edges and remove large debris. Thanks to these efforts, we can help ensure the safety of the swans and other wildlife, who were thoughtfully considered throughout the process.
Denbighshire Council reported that the lake was partially drained as part of their maintenance programme, ensuring minimal disruption to the lake’s fragile ecosystem. They assured us that there’s enough water remaining to keep our feathered friends safe until the lake is fully refilled.
Marine Lake’s biodiversity is as important as the fun activities it offers, and it’s crucial that every decision made respects and preserves this natural gem.
Let’s all do our bit to keep our beautiful spots clean and cherish the wildlife by reducing, recycling, and returning items instead of dumping them! 🦢♻️✨
