🚨 Big news from Cardiff! 🚨
County Hall, the iconic building in Cardiff Bay, is literally falling apart, and it’s crunch time for the City Council. Repairs would cost a staggering £140-£180 million. That’s just not viable! 🏢💸
A newly released report pushes for an urgent move to a brand-new Core Office building to avoid shelling out even more in maintenance costs. Imagine a modern, energy-efficient workspace that’s not only cheaper long-term but also boasts the lowest carbon impact. 🌿
Decision-makers will gather next week to discuss the future, and it’s clear that the clock is ticking. Delays could mean losing a fixed-price deal on this urgent project, leading to even higher costs. Time is of the essence! ⏰
The ambitious plans don’t stop with just an office move. The new building is part of the grand regeneration vision for Atlantic Wharf, promising a vibrant Cardiff Bay with new businesses and visitors. 🎉 Plus, it’s set to spark more job opportunities with the arrival of a production studio and indoor arena!
Post-pandemic shifts to hybrid working means the council is reimagining its needs, and frankly, the old County Hall just doesn’t make the cut anymore. Council leader, Huw Thomas, emphasises the need for wise spending during a time when public service pressures are intensifying. 📉
Russell Goodway, cabinet member for investment and development, highlights that County Hall’s operational woes are at a breaking point, with critical systems at risk of failure. Transitioning to a new space isn’t just a plan—it’s essential for the council to function smoothly without any more surprises.
If the plans get a thumbs-up, a sleek 120,000sq ft office will be in the works, complete with a temporary link road at a cool £1.9 million. The project isn’t just about bricks and mortar; it’s about a fresh era for Cardiff! 🏗️💼
Stay tuned for updates, and imagine a transformed Cardiff Bay as this exciting chapter unfolds! 🌟
