🚨 Heads up, sole traders and landlords! Major tax changes coming in April 2026 🚨

If you’re making over £50k from self-employment or property, it’s time to prepare for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax. From 6th April 2026, you’ll need to use approved software to manage digital records and submit quarterly updates to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Don’t worry, these aren’t extra tax returns—just a simpler way to keep things in order.
To help you get sorted, HMRC is offering loads of free support like online guidance, webinars, and videos. And if you’re genuinely unable to go digital, you can apply for an exemption on GOV.UK.

Why is this change a game-changer? It means no more last-minute tax return stress! With free software available, you can easily track income and expenses all year round. By the end of the tax year, everything’s already in place for your return by the usual 31st January deadline.
Thousands have already tested the system, and it’s proven to reduce errors and smooth out tax time. Craig Ogilvie from HMRC says it’s time to get started if you haven’t already: “Spreading your tax admin throughout the year means a stress-free January.”
And here’s some good news: No penalty points will be given for late updates during the first 12 months of the changeover, with fines only kicking in after four missed submissions.
Take action now! Review HMRC’s guidance, choose your software, and get registered on GOV.UK. And if you have a tax agent, make sure to have a chat with them about these changes.
Get ahead of the curve and ensure your peace of mind come April 2026! 🗓️💡
