📢 Swansea Shop’s Late-Night Booze Plans Curbed 🍺🚫

A new convenience store in Swansea has agreed to close earlier than planned after police and locals voiced their concerns. Kings Local, set to open on King Edward Road, was hoping to sell alcohol until 2am every day. But after a lively discussion, owner Jenan Ragunathan agreed to stick to an 11pm closing time instead.

Local businesses and residents teamed up with South Wales Police, worried that late-night alcohol sales could spark anti-social behaviour and attract troublemakers. A rep for the nearby Truffle restaurant was particularly worried about its impact on local traffic and maintaining a peaceful environment for diners.
Police weren’t too keen on the 2am licence, saying it wouldn’t be great for nearby families, elderly folks, and students. They insisted on a few strict conditions, like banning sales of super-strong single cans and requiring an experienced hand always on deck when booze is on sale.
After hearing out all sides, the council’s licensing sub-committee decided on more reasonable hours, running from 6am to 11pm, with added measures like CCTV and signs discouraging loitering. They’ve ensured that they’ll provide bins, ensuring the area stays clean and tidy to fit in with the local vibe.
Jenan Ragunathan is optimistic about stepping into the bustling Brynmill neighbourhood, bringing his experience while respecting community concerns. Cheers to common ground and community spirit! 🎉✨
