✈️ Considering a trip to Cyprus? Here’s the latest update on travel safety amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving the US, Israel, and Iran.
Due to airspace closures, flights can be unpredictable. Those heading to Cyprus or Turkey are urged to remain flexible with their plans. Despite military activity near Cyprus following an Iranian drone incident at the RAF Akrotiri base, local authorities maintain it’s safe to visit.
🇨🇾 Cyprus remains a popular destination, accounting for a major chunk of UK holidaymakers. However, some Brits are reconsidering their travel plans due to the heightened military presence. Bookings in Cyprus are seeing a decline as cautious travellers opt to delay or cancel their trips.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) hasn’t issued a ‘do not travel’ alert for Cyprus, but they advise there’s a “heightened risk of regional tension.” This could mean travel disruptions or unforeseen issues.
🛫 Flight updates: UK flights, including those from Cardiff, are ongoing but always check with your airline before travelling. Airlines like easyJet and Tui have already adjusted schedules, so stay informed about any chances of cancellations or rerouting.
Thinking about cancelling? Double-check your travel insurance—standard policies might not cover cancellations due to conflict. If your trip includes flight-inclusive packages, your money is protected by the ATOL scheme, ensuring you won’t be left stranded or losing out financially.
For reassurance, consider booking through ABTA members. They provide consumer protection, offering peace of mind and support if travel plans change unexpectedly.
Remember, airlines should offer an alternative flight or refund for cancellations. Keep receipts if you need to make your own arrangements, as airlines should cover reasonable costs.
Stay safe, stay informed, and happy travels! 🌍✈️
