This Mother’s Day, many won’t be able to make that special trip home. With travel costs soaring and ever-busier lives, families are finding it harder than ever to bridge the distance, according to research by Interflora. Over a third of people say the journey is just too far, and about 7% are skipping the visit because of rising rail fares and fuel costs. The RAC recently highlighted a nearly 9% spike in diesel prices and a 6% increase in petrol.

For those who can’t be there in person, technology and thoughtful gestures have become lifelines. A third of folks are planning to dial into a phone or video call, while 30% are opting to send gifts or flowers instead. Interflora has noted a massive surge in flower orders the day before Mother’s Day, with heartfelt messages like “Sorry We Can’t Be There” becoming all too common.

Bethany Day from Interflora reassures us: “There’s no substitute for being together, but connection finds its way.” Whether it’s a call, a bouquet, or a special delivery, there are ways to bridge the gap this Mother’s Day, reminding our mums they’re loved, no matter the miles that separate us. 🌸💌
