☕️ Coffee shop woes in Pontypridd!

Cortile Coffee Ltd has been slapped with fines totalling £1,296 after failing to properly display its food hygiene rating. Owner Richard Metcalfe expressed his frustration, explaining that the sticker was accidentally covered by a menu board. Following a routine inspection by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, the missing sticker led to an initial £200 fine. After efforts to clear things up went unnoticed, the matter escalated to court, resulting in a heftier penalty.

Richard, who didn’t attend the court hearing due to a foot surgery, insists he stuck to all health guidance and is puzzled over the reduction from his previous top rating. Despite the hiccup, he proudly shares that the café only serves low-risk items like toast, paninis, and beverages. Customers still flock for their caffeine fix, with trust in the coffee haven remaining intact!
Councillor Robert Harris reminded everyone that in Wales, unlike England, businesses are legally obligated to display their rating stickers visibly. The council emphasises transparency to help customers make informed dining choices and warns businesses against obscuring these vital ratings.

This incident serves as a wake-up call to ensure ratings are prominently displayed, so let’s keep those stickers shining! #CaffeineFix #PontypriddCafe #TransparencyMatters
