This tragedy has sparked a crucial conversation about the safety of electric bikes on roads. The families of both boys have issued a poignant statement, highlighting the grave risks associated with what might seem like an exhilarating ride. “Finley has paid the ultimate price,” they said, urging others to reconsider the potential dangers.

In the UK, while anyone over 14 can ride an electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC) without a licence, bikes that don’t meet EAPC rules are considered motorcycles and require registration, insurance, and a valid driving licence.

Let this be a stark reminder: always prioritise safety over speed. 🚲⚠️
