The Magor and Undy Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) is known for its incredible biodiversity, featuring ancient reens (man-made drainage ditches), rare aquatic plants, and the precious shrill carder bee. This site isn’t just beautiful; it’s ecologically vital!

Thanks to Natural Resources Wales and Monmouthshire County Council, concrete steps have been taken (literally!) to block unauthorised entry and prevent further damage. 🚫 Any unauthorised activities like waste dumping or altering the landscape are now strictly off-limits, with violators facing severe legal consequences, including imprisonment.

Why is this important? This area doesn’t just support unique species, it also plays a critical role in flood management. New legal protections ensure that anyone—whether named in the order or not—will face serious repercussions for causing harm.

Officials are committed to using all available legal tools to safeguard this precious part of our natural heritage. Cllr Paul Griffiths from Monmouthshire County Council emphasises that unlawful activities harming the environment will not be tolerated.

Let’s spread the word and help protect one of Wales’ most significant landscapes for future generations! 🌍💚
