Everyday expenses also took a pleasant turn. Imagine grabbing a loaf of bread for under a euro or a litre of water for about 30p. Plus, with salaries on the rise, Alex enjoys two holidays a year with his family, all while relishing a simpler, yet richer life.

While he admits adjusting to the direct German mannerisms took time, Alex emphasises that it’s a small price to pay for the perks of life in Germany. Yes, meat variety might be limited, and politeness isn’t always a given, but the benefits surely outweigh the cons.
For Alex, the UK’s allure fades against Germany’s practical perks. Free schools and universities, affordable living, and a sense of security have made Hamburg home.
