Big news on the political front! First Minister Eluned Morgan recently had a chat with Prime Minister Keir Starmer over a leaked memo that’s got everyone talking. The memo, which has stirred quite the buzz, highlights the UK Government’s approach to working with the devolved nations, namely Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Apparently, Starmer advised his cabinet to maintain a “professional and respectful working relationship” but suggested they hold their ground even if opposition arises from the devolved governments. This memo didn’t sit well with some, as Plaid Cymru’s leader, Rhun ap Iorwerth, accused Starmer of showing Wales “contempt” during Tuesday’s First Minister’s Questions.

During a committee session, Mrs Morgan revealed that she’d had a word with Starmer post-memo leak to clarify his stance. She confirmed that the Prime Minister’s memo was referring to reserved UK Government areas like pensions, benefits, and foreign affairs, rather than devolved subjects such as health and education.
Mrs Morgan declared that despite the memo’s tone, the relationship between the Welsh and UK governments has “improved significantly,” especially compared to the past 14 years under the Conservatives. She expressed optimism about the promised £14bn for Welsh infrastructure, marking a positive change compared to previous funding issues.
When asked whether the memo indicated strained relations, Mrs Morgan responded confidently, pointing out the open communication lines she has with UK ministers, which she feels signifies a healthier relationship than in past years.
It seems the political landscape in Wales is shifting, with promises of new investments and restored relationships. Stay tuned for more updates! #WelshPolitics #UKGovernment #DevolutionMatters
