🏉 Six Nations Excitement & Concerns! 🏉

Nigel Owens, the legendary rugby referee, shares his thoughts on the thrilling Six Nations matches and the pressing need for changes! While the weekend offered plenty of excitement, with a defence-focused Ireland-Wales clash, a Super Rugby vibe at Murrayfield, and Italy’s shocking win over England, there’s room for improvement.

Nigel was left disappointed by an incident in the Scotland-France game where a clear foul play (an alleged eye-gouge) wasn’t reviewed by the TMO. He feels that relying too much on technology, rather than trusting the capable on-field referees, is problematic.
Proposals for new game laws, especially those affecting scrums, were discussed recently but with no significant changes. Nigel believes the current laws are fine if applied correctly. He calls for better scrum officiating and posits that only the goal-line hold-up drop-out rule needs revision. Officiating positivity and enforcement of existing laws can up the game.
In essence, Nigel advocates for empowering referees to make bold and correct decisions without overly depending on technology. This, he says, will enhance the brilliance of this unique sport we all love without unnecessary law changes.
